Disinterested kindness

You are meant to mold your reality

“Through disinterested kindness you can open your mind drastically, since you deny your nonsense troubles and your negative self in the act”

After you’ve had a dreadful week like me, you might want set a little relief in order to keep your mind healthy and running smoothly. Here’s a little trick you can try just to get that comfy change feeling, when everything goes wrong.

Just before you attempt to do it, I should say my perspective about these things, is that in the best possible cases, you can actually change from one moment to another, and is not strictly necesary for it to suffer a process of self indulgence… That often.

Short as it is, here it goes:
As I’m not telling you to forget your troubles and get happy from one moment to another, I encourage you to confront them correctly from now on, and, in my opinion, the best way to do this is to show off a little disinterested kindness towards someone else. It’s not that hard as you have nothing to lose when you try it, just be nice because you want to 🙂 This can actually make a change in your current mentality by setting things up in a different approach. From now on, you are inmersing yourself in a marvelous relief-denoting act that can turn the bad vibes around you upside down. Give it a little experimentation, once you’ve mastered it, it works like magic. This is the first step of the so called “positive attitude”.

I know everyone is different, but this actually worked well for me a couple of days ago, just sharing

Through disinterested kindness you can open your mind drastically, since you deny your nonsense troubles and your negative self in the act. 😉

Give it a try,
Marcelo

The Jungle Line

Coy and bitchy, wild and fine
And charging elephants and chanting slaving boats
Charging, chanting down the jungle line..

Rousseau walks on trumpet paths
Safaris to the heart of all that jazz
Through I bars and girders-through wires and pipes
The mathematic circuits of the modern nights
Through huts, through Harlem, through jails and gospel pews
Through the class on Park and the trash on Vine
Through Europe and the deep deep heart of Dixie blue
Through savage progress cuts the jungle line

In a low-cut blouse she brings the beer
Rousseau paints a jungle flower behind her ear
Those cannibals-of shuck and jive
They’ll eat a working girl like her alive
With his hard-edged eye and his steady hand
He paints the cellar full of ferns and orchid vines
And he hangs a moon above a five-piece band
He hangs it up above the jungle line

The jungle line, the jungle line
Screaming in a ritual of sound and time
Floating, drifting on the air-conditioned wind
And drooling for a taste of something smuggled in
Pretty women funneled through valves and smoke
Coy and bitchy, wild and fine
And charging elephants and chanting slaving boats
Charging, chanting down the jungle line

There’s a poppy wreath on a soldier’s tomb
There’s a poppy snake in a dressing room
Poppy poison-poppy tourniquet
It slithers away on brass like mouthpiece spit
And metal skin and ivory birds
Go steaming up to Rousseau’s vines
They go steaming up to Brooklyn Bridge
Steaming, steaming, steaming up the jungle line

About drumming and its future

Decadence
Decadence as seen on the Concise Oxford Dictionary is “a luxurious self-indulgence”, isn’t is this what we’ve been experimenting lately, since the realistic drumming simulators began its invasion? Because certainly, the tools that were used before that huge realistic sound and perfection revolution (a.k.a. Advanced Roland brains or Yamaha’s Dt Express or the cool loops applications) were a great compliment on drumming, great effects, great new ideas and conceptions, but one thing is for sure: Drumming ain’t getting bigger, drumming itself is going straight down.

Jazz
I’d say that Jazz was the element that helded the technique up, that kept challenging the drummer to explore newer and more advanced approaches to develope its talent deeper and deeper through those long hours of practice (The great Elvin Jones used to practice up to 9 hours everyday, and he did improve the drumming world a lot) and make the drumming experience even greater than what it naturally was. When we had jazz as the main style in the global culture (it expressed finnese, good taste, admiration from the white guy to the black guy, what a revolution!) we had an unknown universe to expand, and yet those old cats weren’t able to completely figure out about what it was, and probably nobody will.

Up next?
We can’t say it will be Jazz Fusion, because certainly the mix between Jazz and a bit of rock with electronic elements on it, already happened in the mid 80’s and 90’s with bands such as the Chick Corea Elektric Band, and damn… What a band! Weckl was (and still is) insanely great on the subject. But we might say we can relive that in a different approach, in a more contemporary bussiness setup, because the real challenge this time is to implement the marketing tools over the revival of the old concepts, this way is a win/win thing for musicians and producers.

The revival
Hard and dedicated drumming can live once again. Man, we’re talking about the most primitive instrument there has ever been! We shouldn’t throw to the ground all the approaches from Moeller, Morello, Chapin.. Buddy Rich’s coolness and replace it for what? A straight ahead 4/4 beat or a worked out beat from a triggered metal drummer or a computer? We ain’t expanding, we’re little by little letting the lyricist express himself over a repressed musician playing something that doesn’t really make him express to the bones. Enough said, let’s start improving our drumming world now! The very first thing is technique and innovation on the drums, go from there and you’ll see the impact by yourself, then make it marketable without losing the grace of it.

Free Run

Today, after a couple of months in absence, I’m back at my blog. It feels good to be back, I don’t know if I’ll proceed blogging as I used to be (I’m not really sure of anything) but there’s a few things I’d like to write about:

The first of all is: Mylo Xyloto

This album really changed my perception of music, it feels like getting over the baroque period and opening my mind to a whole new dimension, maybe that’s the way how it was.. Maybe it wasn’t.. But I like to believe that’s the way it was.

By far, one of the best albums ever

I tend to listen to music by periods, I can’t just be one day listening something really cheerful and at the next second listen to heavy metal, in my view, that generates a emotional disorder, and it’s not having a closed mind, it’s just that I love to have the four stations divided into different stages of my life: Summer, autumn, winter and spring right inside my ears and heart. I enjoy having the cycle of music in my hears over and over again, I feel it makes me grow as a musician and as a heart-loving human being. And by now, this album made it’s job perfectly by setting a happy stage in my life, too bad it lasted a couple of days before I got tired of listening the whole thing over and over again.. So I’d recommend to variate the albums and songs you hear, and not just focus in one during a long period of time or at the end, your ears may feel those songs as harassing, and that’s not good.

But returning to the album, I believe it is great for waking up in the morning with a great mood, for your workout, to try to revalue your life as the most valuable thing you have, and overall.. To just enjoy a peaceful and life-filled music.

Here’s a great track from the album

The next thing I’d like to talk about is workout, mainly jogging:

I’ve been recently experiencing what it feels to actually have a good cardio workout, running during 45 minutes across my town hurts like heaven, I wouldn’t say it’s a hobby, I’d rather call it a preparation for a better lifestyle, ’cause that, complemented with a healthy diet has putted me into a more active way of developing my daily routine. My body feels simply fine! It’s highly recommendable to spend a couple of minutes per day working out, I try to combine it too with abs workout, sit ups and weightlifting, a great and easy routine.

But well, how does these two things combine? Cause obviously, they can!

First of all, the music acts as a motivator, a huge HUGE motivator! It improves considerably your performance while you’re exercising (just look at this research about music and workout by Dr. Costas Karageorghis and David-Lee Priest from the Brunel University http://www.thesportjournal.org/article/music-sport-and-exercise-update-research-and-application ) it says something about bpm’s (the speed of the songs in beats per minute) but I personally believe that it is not about it, it’s about the emotions transmitted from one side of your music player all the way to your ears, those waves are the ones that motivates you to go beyond and give you one more breath when you feel you’re done, it runs like adrenaline when you realise that music is the key to impulse your body to go wherever and however it needs to go.

The limitation comes when you realise that going faster and with a higher resistance is limited by a process with different stages, because your body and your muscles must develop itself appropriately in order to improve: Your very own body sets the boundaries with your health. And yes, jogging is an awesome cardio workout 🙂 Go little by little and you’ll feel the difference in a matter of days. Extremely high recommended!

By the way, I’m thinking my next entry could be about the ego and how it affects the persons that surrounds you, it sounds interesting.. Ciao!

How many :)

How many were born, how many didn’t reach the sunset, how many were freezing, how many felt all that heat like me and my friends, how many started their love life, how many decided to break up, how many thought they did but they return today to him/her, how many twins were born, how many of them are now alone in the world, how many got mad, how many made it and they’re out of the madhouse, how many picked up a guitar for the first time, how many sold it on ebay, how many balls they threw, how many they catched with their face (or their buttocks), how many people earned their first salary, how many were on their way to make the process for their pension, how many gave a kiss, how many wished one, how many believed it was a mistake, how many tried to solve the problems, how many screamed.. Eureka!, how many wanted to see something nice about today, how many actually did, I could, you should try 😉

The Perfect Reality

It was hard for me to realise how the perfect reality was meant to be, we’re not talking about utopia situations or lifestyles, it’s about adjusting our minds to the current reality, which in a 100% of cases, it’s perfect .

You may think, “ok, so I’m awfully poor (or rich, both cases might produce a poor way to live (a.k.a. Reality) and I have no friends or my life sucks”. Well dear reader, allow me tell you that your reality is perfect the way it is.. ‘Cause at the end of the day, it still is your life, and nobody else’s same reality.

The very beginning of this concept came to my mind through thinking about what do Emo guys/girls feel attracted about being emo, and is that, leaving behind fashion and sadness as the center of their lives, there are emotions constantly coming through.. Sometimes pain can be beautiful just because it can touch your soul deeply, and easier than love in some cases.

A lugubrious reality can be as beautifully perfect as the bright in your lover’s eyes. Just think about it: Picture in your mind a beautiful sunset over the sea, with those soothing waves arriving at the shore and crashing right away with the sand, and look at the horizon line, and even if you can.. Feeling the breeze. Notice how your mind now has positive peaceful reality, it’s perfect. Let’s take this as an experiment.

Now picture a dark day of crisis at Somalia, watching those little boys and girls die of hunger, asking desperately for just a glass of water and/or a piece of bread, it’s a cruel world out there, you know. Feel that pain and uncomfortable sensations running through your body and soul…. It feels so odd.

..Proceeding with the experiment: Aren’t this perfect realities? One is perfectly positive and sweet, the other is perfectly wrong and bitter. But both have perfection as their common factor. Every single atom and particle on their place, ready to make an effect on your soul, teaching you about themselves just by starring at them on your mind.. ain’t that perfect.. Perfection is everything man..

So the moral is.. Readjust your reality, or learn how to live with it, nothing but that.. Your life can be how you want it to be, nobody else has the ability to mold your reality like you can.. Overwhelming effort makes the difference if you don’t feel it as positive or negative as you wish.

Think Different :)

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Take care,
John Appleseed
